The compact size is ideal for those small jobs and hard to reach areas. The 5.5 amp gives this saw plenty of power for it's purpose. Loved the kit which included a well built bag to keep the saw contained and in good condition. Small enough that even a woman could use it! Well built. Should last a long time.

Disappointing. Was a time when Porter Cable made good tools
weak motor. Not able to cross cut a 2x4 with a brand new cross cut blade. Might manage to cut 1/4" paneling but 3/8 and 1/2" will be a chore.

A Look-See at this Little Beastie!
I've needed a small cutter from time to time for those difficult-to-reach spots or material that is very small and risky with my Skilsaw. This little beastie has surprisingly good power. The grip orientation to the blade is the condition to get used to, like pushing the worm gear with a stick you are holding on to and when you set the depth shallower, you are now doing that along with a pushing downward action which increases table to material resistance and becomes prone to tipping. It's akward at first but the geometry and size gets the cut you need and muscle memory will grow with experience. I won't talk about how I adjusted the guard and giant red guard handle. Good line of sight is important. The push button safety is good for non-professionals and does need getting used to, however, it's position is less than ideal. Pay close attention to your 0 degree set because sometimes you have to do a little meddling to get it put into a true 0 (90 degree) down cut. I am happy with this saw for what it is. I've used wormdrives since 1965 with every size and mod under the sun. It's a good little saw. Just be patient.

This saw is Hungry.
Had to cut some stringers. Anybody whose been there knows wet pressure treated 2x12s just bogs down any saw. Meet your match. This porter cable 5.5 compact came to eat. Ate through pt lumber like they were match sticks. 45 minutes. 5 stringers down. One man and his hungry new porter cable compact. All I had to do is let her eat. I have only reviewed 2 products this being the second in my 30 plus years in carpentry. The multi tool by Dr#!×l and this saw have gotten the attention of someone whose seen and bought alot of gimmicky gadgets. This compact saw is worth the money. Buy it and you won't be disappointed.
